Nuevo Vallarta can be found just 20 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta and is a wonderful tourist town that has recently been awarded the Clean Tourist Destination award. Nuevo Vallarta is the first town in Mexico to receive this prestigious award.
Nuevo Vallarta was able to qualify for the quality certification thanks to FIBBA’s rigorous compliance in the fields of integrated water and waste management, and top notch urban infrastructure. The fact that it had dealt so well with the rapid expansion of the last three decades has, no doubt, something to do with this Clean Tourist Destination award, too. The lush foliage along the clean avenues, and gorgeous natural waterways offer a level of integrated urban and natural beauty that is uncommon and precious.
The governor of Nayarit, Roberto Sandoval Castañeda, received the Clean Tourism award from Rafael Pacchiano Alamán, head of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), with pride. This acknowledgement of the great lengths which the municipality of the Bay of Banderas has went to in order to meet the requirements was met with pride and joy from all local officials.
Why is Nuevo Vallarta so popular?
Nuevo Vallarta offers all comers an experience of a lifetime; whether you’re spending a day or a week in the city we have some suggestions for things to do:
Foodies of all ages will be bowled over by the huge variety on offer when it comes to restaurants and dishes to enjoy in Nuevo Vallarta and Puerto Vallarta. You can get Mexican, Italian, French, and fusion foods here. Whether you want seafood or vegetarian dishes, nothing is off the menu here.
A stroll along the beach is a great way to pass time in any beachside location, and Nuevo Vallarta is no different. Why not start at the hotel zone and walk all the way to La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. The soft sands and lapping waves are super romantic at sunset.
Nuevo Vallarta has two great marinas where you can take sailing classes, or even just watch the Yachts come and go with a coffee and a slice of cake.
Boogie or skim boarding are great activities to enjoy with your kids; the waves here are perfect for such activities, and the water is generally warm. Kitesurfing is also popular during late spring early summer.
Ride a Bike
The terrain here is perfect for bike rides of all lengths and intensities; whether it’s a gentle ride through the streets, or a heavy workout you can be sure you’ll find a route that’s perfect.
You’ve probably fed the ducks while at home, but did you know that you can feed turtles here in Puerto Vallarta? Well, you really can. At the south entrance to the town there are good restaurants, and turtles aplenty.
We want to congratulate all of the individuals who have contributed to Nuevo Vallarta’s status as a Clean Tourist Destination on a job well done.
