1964 – The Night of the Iguana

The first and the original movie that put Puerto Vallarta on the map is The Night of the Iguana, which was filmed in 1964. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were featured actors in this movie. Even though the two actors were already married to other people, they began an affair that attracted media attention from the United States to cover their passionate romance. As a result, Puerto Vallarta’s tourism spiked after the movie’s release. 

1980 – Herbie Goes Bananas

Approximately fifteen years later, Herbie Goes Bananas was filmed in 1980. This is a comedy and adventure movie that was the 4th installment in the Herbie movie franchises that Walt Disney Productions produced. Herbie is the star, which was a racing Volkswagen Beetle. Herbie enjoyed many exciting adventures in and around Puerto Vallarta in the film. 

1987 – Predator

American science fiction and action movie called Predator was filmed in 1987. The movie starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the movie was filmed in the jungle of the Sierra Madre Mountains just south of Puerto Vallarta’s downtown. The movie was written by Jim and John Thomas (brothers), and it was directed by John McTiernan. 

1990 – Revenge

In 1990, the romantic thriller Revenge was partially filmed in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. 

2008 – Beverly Hills Chihuahua

In 2008, the Beverly Hills Chihuahua was filmed. The little chihuahua goes on vacation with her owner in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, but gets lost. The little chihuahua has to depend on new friends she made in Mexico to protect her and to return her back to her owner. 

2011 – Limitless

American science fiction and thriller movie, Limitless was filmed in 2011.  The movie is based on the novel by Alan Glynn, The Dark Fields. Leslie Dixon wrote the film, and Neil Burger directed the movie. 

2016 – Sundown

In 2016, Sundown was filmed in Puerto Vallarta. The movie is a story about two teens that go on spring break in Puerto Vallarta.  However, one of the teens brings along a Rolex watch that was their father’s which ends up getting stolen.  As a result, the two teens end up on a wild and crazy adventure in Puerto Vallarta trying to recover the missing watch. 

2019 – Godzilla: King of the Monsters
