Hey Riviera Nayarit residents? This weekend, you should head down to Puerto Vallarta as the 3rd edition of the PV Mango Festival is back. This sweet event is scheduled for Saturday, July 6th at 4:00 pm at the Lázaro Cárdenas Park which is in the Old Town section of Puerto Vallarta. Organized by the Instituto Vallartense de Cultura y el Comité de Ciudades Hermanas Highland Park, the Mango Festival is open to the public and 25 pesos tickets are available for purchase which can be used to buy food and drinks. Mangoes Arrived to Mexico in the 1700’s
Mangoes are originally from India, and first arrived in Mexico in the late 1700s when Spanish traders brought them over. Mangoes thrive in warm climates and subsequently flourished in Mexico. Today, mangoes are one of the most popular fruits in the country and are grown in various states including Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Michoacán, Veracruz, and Chiapas. Mexico’s warm climate which is perfect for mangoes making Mexico the 2nd largest exporter of mangoes in the entire world after China.
Help Support DesembocArte, Los Fridos and the Rotary Club
Money raised from the Mango Festival will go to benefit 3 local charities including DesembocArte, Los Fridos and the local Rotary Club. DesembocArte is a children’s art workshop that supports the arts for children from the neighborhood of La Desembocada, and some of the local children’s artwork will even be featured at the Mango Festival. Los Fridos teaches art and music via training activities and instruction for children. The Rotary Club helps local patients who need financial assistance to purchase leg prosthesis and they also provide medical, dental and ophthalmological care for outlying neighborhoods in need. Come help support these noble efforts and attend the Mango Festival. Do your part to help promote art and culture in the area all while enjoying delicious mango inspired food and drinks.
